about

I wrote this song on New Year's Day, when I was down by the beach with my best friend from high school. I was thinking about how I've seen so many touching things, but that the brightest thing in all of my memories is the love I feel for my friends and family - those closest to my heart. - Janis Malicious

lyrics

I stood alone on the banks of the Meekong
I stripped all my clothes off and dove straight in
Held my breath for so many minutes til I became dizzy
And I couldn't distinguish the surface from sinking
There were lights in my eyes
And death in my throat
My lungs ached to breathe
But I knew if I did I would choke
I wanted you to take hold of my mind
One last glimpse of you as I die

You're the brightest

I've dreamt dreams so vivid that when I awake
I can still smell the rain and the straw where I lay
And still you're the brightest
I've worshipped gods and goddesses
And prostrated myself in temples and churches
And I too have been worshipped
But still you're the brightest

I've seen the sky split, lit by the darkest of storms
I've watched a child being born as his mother dies
Still you're the brightest star of them all

Don't let them fool you
Don't let them lie
You are the only one who'll ever shine this bright

I've seen the fires at the edge of the world
Watched a million sunrises
Still you're the brightest

I've seen the sky split, lit by the darkest of storms
I've watched a child being born as his mother dies
Still you're the brightest star of them all
